In this presentation, the history of the Black family is traced from Africa, through the period of enslavement, right up to today. It highlights the fragmentation of the family suffered during enslavement and how that manifests itself in today’s Black families. Spoken word and current events are used to enhance the material presented. This will be of interest to school social workers, child and youth workers, guidance counselors, administrators and educators in Social Sciences and the Humanities.
