Stereotypes: I Am Not Your Expectations is a dramatic presentation that engages young people in thinking critically about issues connected to stereotyping and prejudice. The dialogue in the presentation’s two dramatized scenarios highlights stereotypes and prejudices about individuals of African descent and demonstrates the harmful and painful outcomes of social stigmatization. Inspiration for the content included in the play was taken from contributions made by a group of 20 high school students in a candid discussion about stereotypes and includes popular language used by young people across the GTA, making it accessible for youthful audiences. The presentation has been performed for audiences ranging from grades 5-12, and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, teachers and administrators.
