It is often believed that any significant Black presence in Canada began with the influx of immigrants coming from the Caribbean and Africa between 1960s and the 1990s. There are several Black Canadian communities pre-dating this time frame that are often forgotten. These communities played important roles in building Canada as a nation, while producing legendary individuals who impacted the world in the areas of medicine and science, politics, music, sports, education and more.
