The legendary Bob Marley said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”. Marley’s music, along with the music of countless Black musicians, singers, and writers, has been used to fight and survive racial discrimination. New music including Spirituals, Rhythm and Blues, and Calypso, and new instruments such as the steel pan, were created out of struggle and resistance. Learn how Black music from Africa to the Caribbean to North America has become the soundtrack to life and an indomitable force in the fight against oppression in an interactive and dynamic presentation titled Rhythm and Resistance.
